A cartridge or pouch system seals the soap in a sterile container for maximum hygiene. The cartridge and nozzle are discarded after use, so there is no mechanism to wear out or drip. A variety of qualities are available in two types of dispenser.

The sealed cartridges ensure 100% hygiene by preventing the growth of bacteria in the soap. Gojo are the leading handcare manufacturer in the USA.

Purell sanitiser is widely used in the NHS as an alcohol based hand rub to sterilise hands between washes. Many factories and catering establishments provide it so that staff can sanitise their hands in places where there is no access to water. Purell contains emollients to protect the hands from the effects of the alcohol. The product is also available in pump bottles, one of which can be attached to a belt with a clip.
