Bacteria can in fact live in soap, so if you have a food related business or want the maximum levels of hygiene, you should choose one of the sealed cartridge/pouch systems, which prevent any bacteria entering. That said, there are many of us who think that a few bugs around the place are a good thing, including a number of schools which have banned antibacterial soaps, because their children are not building up enough immunities.

A cartridge or pouch system seals the soap in a sterile container for maximum hygiene. The cartridge and nozzle are discarded after use, so there is no mechanism to wear out or drip. A variety of qualities are available in two types of dispenser.
